Banqueting

When thinking about the word ‘Banquet’ it conjures up images from medieval times. In fact the perception is quite different today from what we used to recognise. In fact the tradition stems from the ‘Ceremony of the Void’ during which guests would drink sweet wine while the table was cleared or ‘voided’. From the 16th century onwards guests would no longer stand in the great chamber but would instead retire to the ‘Banqueting Room’.

Today banquets can be associated with royal occasions and political summits, but also they are more commonly seen as a way to strengthen business relationships, it is also traditional to hold a banquet at the end of an academic conference.

What kind of Banqueting venue should I choose?

There are a myriad of banqueting venues to choose for all occasions. A CEO of a major company may look to entertain clients, or you could look to arrange a presentation lunch or a dinner dance with cabaret entertainment. You might want to hold a pre wedding banquet, or something less formal. Maybe it’s a simple as a banquet at a nearby restaurant.

Many banqueting venues will have event organisers who will see you through the process, such as table décor, menu and dietary requirements and entertainment and in the case of a hotel style banqueting venue, you can always book overnight accommodation for your appointed guests.

It is also very important to ensure you choose a banqueting venue with the correct capacity. Imagine a venue which is too small for the number of attendees or too big and airy for a small number of guests. With this in mind, all our hosted venues list the breakdown and capacity of each individual room and hall.
