Freemasons Birmingham conference centre up for sale

Property consultant GVA has announced it is looking for a buyer for the Freemason's Clarendon Suites building in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The conference centre is due to close on Valentine’s Day resulting in the loss of 60 jobs.

GVA said it was considering both wholly unconditional offers for the site as well as conditional offers - subject to planning - for the wholesale redevelopment of the plot.

Mark Birks from GVA told the Birmingham Mail newspaper: “The site’s prominent position on Hagley Road makes it suitable for a range of options, including residential, leisure and healthcare uses.

“The site is enhanced by a resolution for residential planning consent for 84 residential units granted last year which establishes some interesting principles in terms of layout and massing.”

A range of jobs are affected by the closure, including chefs, administrative staff, wages department and cleaners.
