Prime Minister backs #NEMO

Prime Minister, David Cameron, has once again showed his support for Britain for Events during the closing week of National Events Month October. In a letter Mr Cameron wished the campaign "every success for National Events Month," and committed further support for the industry.

The Prime Minister credited the industry's "significant contribution to the economy" and advised that he was working with the Department of Culture Media & Sport and UK Trade & investment to support the industry even further.

Many high profile government representatives have lent their support to the consumer facing campaign. Early in National Events Month Kathleen Warden, Director of Conference Sales at the SECC, briefed Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg on the campaign during his party’s conference in Glasgow. During week two of National Events Month SMP Fergus Ewing, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism in Scotland, was briefed on the campaign during the Scottish Tourism Alliance’s annual conference in Stirling. Meanwhile last week saw Edwina Hart, Minister for Finance and Local Government in Wales, support the campaign at the Association of Independent Festival Organisers Congress in Cardiff, and Helen Grant, Tourism Minister for the UK, confirmed her attendance at the #NEMO Celebration Event at the Museum of London on 27th October.

Alistair Turner, Campaign Director for Britain for Events, commented: “The sheer reach of the campaign this year, both through our extensive social campaign and our #NEMO, as well as the volume of events that have adopted our branding has attracted some really high profile support. The comments from the Prime Minster are welcome, and we continue to work with his office as well as other government departments to increase the international competitiveness and profile of this great industry.”
