Ettington Park is steeped in history and if you explore the extensive parkland and beautiful formal gardens you’ll discover fascinating echoes of its rich and varied past.
Not least of these of course are the remains of the Norman church. All that remains now are the tower, which is home to rare Horseshoe bats, the walls of the nave, and the chapel which houses the Shirley family’s mausoleum, and which can still be used for blessings.
There is also the 17th century summerhouse that E.P.Shirley brought from Coleshill Park, historic home of the Dudley family. It stands in the formal gardens surmounted by huge pineapples and the Dudley family crest of an ostrich with a horseshoe in its beak.
There are endless things to discover at Ettington Park, but the Warwickshire countryside surrounding the house also has a huge variety of attractions to offer the visitor including many magnificent historic houses, stately homes, and castles.
Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon is just 6 miles away. And for those who prefer flowers to flowery words there are superb gardens such as the Westonbirt Arboretum and Oxford Botanic Gardens, as well as the beautiful villages of the Cotswolds all within easy reach of the house.
