Conference venue to be expanded in £250m plans

A conference venue in Telford will be expanded after plans to regenerate an area of the town were given outline consent.

As part of the scheme, the International Centre will be updated and have its capacity increased.

The £250 million scheme will also make the area more attractive for holding conferences, with the redevelopment to include 300,000 sq ft of offices and two hotels.

Telford & Wrekin council gave outline consent for the 30-acre site, which is located near to the Telford Shopping Centre running from Southwater Square up to the conference venue.

The approval is dependent on legal agreements, the Highways Agency withdrawing its holding objection and a series of conditions.

More car parking will also be created to help serve the expanded conference venue.

Council leader Andrew Eade told the Shropshire Star: "I am delighted with the decision by the plans board."

Further plans will need to be submitted for various other areas of the development, the council stated.ADNFCR-1752-ID-19669280-ADNFCR
