Glasgow venue praises role of the press in helping SECC events

The role the media has played in helping the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) grow has been highlighted.

As the latest recipients of the Glasgow venue's Champion Awards, the Scottish and national press are being recognised for the role they have played in promoting SECC events.

Presenting the award, the venue's chief executive officer John Sharkey commented: "Throughout the SECC's 25 year history, the UK press has had an important role to play in our success. The press and the wider media are crucial to communicating our latest news, business wins and concert reviews, all of which is invaluable to the SECC."

Earlier winners of the awards include Trees for Life, Visit Scotland and Rod Stewart.

Accepting his award, Stewart, who is known for hits such as Baby Jane, All for Love, Your Wear it Well and Maggie May, said he loved visiting Scotland and was looking forward to the next 25 years at the venue.
