London City Selection weekend generates £25,000 of enquiries

The London City Selection (LCS), the Barbican led initiative driving forward the City of London’s event offering held its annual fam event this weekend attended by agency event organisers. During the course of the event more than £25,000 worth of enquiries were made across the Selection’s portfolio of venues.

Delegates included Grass Roots, BSI, Canon Europe, Visit London, Conference Care, Banks Sadler and Corporate Event Solutions. In addition to the new business enquiries, the LCS added an additional 20 new twitter followers, increasing their communications across the industry.

LCS chair and Barbican business development manager, Samme Allen: “This year’s event has been our greatest success, a fact that is clearly demonstrated by the on-site enquiries. They visited and experienced venues across the whole of the destination whilst learning a great deal about the City and its offering. For our newer members the weekend was the perfect opportunity to understand the benefits of LCS membership both from a financial and networking point of view.”

During the weekend, the buyers were split into 5 teams and issued a set of challenges that ensured they each saw a minimum of nine LCS member venues. The challenges were all themed to incorporate the City’s long history including the creation of a Roman film at Plaisterers Hall and a 1980’s blockbuster challenge at the Barbican (including the presence of the original Ghostbusters car).

The weekend commenced on the Friday evening with an exhibition and networking at the Mermaid, with the gala dinner and award ceremony taking place at the Museum of London on the Saturday night. Prizes were awarded for individual challenges, the overall team winner and the best costume.

Shaun Cole, director of sales, City Inn - London, a new member of the London City Selection commented: “We saw the value in the LCS as soon as it was launched but this weekend has gone far beyond our expectations. The level and quality of the buyers present, including several with genuine enquiries was fantastic and the whole team here at City Inn are looking forward to developing our relationships with the rest of the LCS membership over the course of the next year. Roll on the 2011 weekend.”
