Manchester's G-Mex conference centre 'has big potential'

Manchester's G-Mex conference centre is set to make major strides in the events business, according to its chief executive.

The facility's boss Lesley Tomlinson tells the Manchester Evening News that the city has made great strides in raising its profile as a business tourism venue but adds that it can grow even further.

"We are only just beginning to see the scale of what can be achieved here," she tells the newspaper.

The G-Mex was recently rebranded along with the international convention centre as Manchester Central and the facilities are undergoing a £28 million redevelopment to create more flexible conference space.

Ms Tomlinson says that the new design will help the events venues to adapt to the changing market, adding that the team "constantly look[s] at ways of broadening the product".

In other conference centre news, Excel London was recently named Venue of the Year at the Association of Event Venues Excellence Awards.
