The University of Leicester has recently started work on constructing a new sports complex at the Oadby Student Village that will significantly enhance the existing sports facilities.
Much of the current site will be demolished to make way for the new facilities which include a 25m swimming pool, spa pool plus a sauna and steam rooms. The first floor will feature a fully equipped 600m2 gym incorporating a large free weights area and an aerobics studio.
The £5M development will be known as Greenviews Health and Fitness Club and is due to be completed by September 2012.
Other projects also underway within Oadby Student Village include the new Gilbert Murray Conference Suite due to open later this year and 145 en suite bedrooms being fully refurbished at Bowder Court.Trevor Miller, Conference Sales and Marketing Manager at Leicester Conferences; the University’s dedicated events team comments “We are very excited to have a first class sports and leisure facility being built within our Oadby site. Not only will it complement our other developments such as the new Gilbert Murray Conference Suite, it will also give delegates the opportunity to relax and unwind during their stay with us. Our first swimming pool within the University will no doubt prove very popular and further demonstrates the University’s commitment to continued development.”
