Newcastle Racecourse 'thriving as conference venue'

Newcastle Racecourse is thriving as a conference venue, with the facility hosting some major local and international events, according to boss Mark Spincer.

Mr Spincer, executive director of the racecourse, tells The Journal that regular clients include Newcastle Primary Care Trust, Newcastle University, the Department of Work and Pensions and Living North.

The facility has played host to international political conventions, major business fairs, product launches, exhibitions and trade shows, with excellent rail, road and air links helping to attract delegates.

"Conferences and corporate events have become an increasingly important part of our business and we are now an established and well-regarded venue nationally," he tells the newspaper.

Brandling House, within the racecourse's grounds, can cater for up to 500 guests in a variety of rooms, ranging from small salons to grand banqueting suites.

Recently, Andrew Dixon, chief executive of the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, recently told the Times that business tourism in the region has been growing, with organisers increasingly looking to stage major events in the city.
