Sir Michael Caine unveils new London venue

Sir Michael Caine has unveiled London's newest event space, the Galleries of Modern London in the Museum of London.

The £20 million London venue, which received £11.5 million from the Heritage Fund, has taken three years to create.

Features include a 48-metre chandelier in Sackler Hall, as well as recreated Georgian pleasure gardens where mannequins wear period costumes and specially commissioned masks and hats by Philip Treacy.

London Museum director professor Jack Lohman said: "The Galleries of Modern London breathe new life into the Museum. It is thrilling to see our ambitious and complex project realised, transforming the Museum and placing it at the heart of the city it celebrates."

It is possible to hire space for conferences, dining and other events at the Museum of London, as well as at the organisation's Museum of London Docklands.

The Museum of London, which features over two million objects, is one of the world's largest urban history museums.ADNFCR-1752-ID-19795586-ADNFCR
