Southport venue secures £10m of events business

Southport Conferences has managed to secure £10 million worth of events over the next six years.

A joint collaboration between the organisation and one of the area's leading venues, the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre (STCC) has helped to land contracts with the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) and the Prison Officers Association (POA).

The IDTA will host its three-day annual congress at the STCC each year until 2015, bringing an estimated 1,000 visitors to the resort each summer.

Between May 2011 and 2016, the POA will host is 400-delegate conference at the venue.

"These wins are a real testament to the work of the STCC, the Southport business tourism team and everyone else involved in the bid," commented Sefton Council's head of tourism Tony Corfield.

ExCeL London recently announced that is has secured £6 million worth of events business since being named as London's first international convention centre (ICC) less than six months ago.
