The Conservative Party has called for the government to support the expansion of London venues.
It has set up a tourism taskforce to urge more investment in London venues, recommending that an international convention centre is built in the city.
A report released by the party acknowledged ExCel London's potential as an international conference venue but called for another centre to be built.
"I'm delighted that the Conservative Party has recognised the importance of business visits and events and some of the measures needed to support the industry," said Michael Hirst, chairman of the Business Visit and Events Partnership, who represented the events industry on the taskforce.
The report also called for more investment in Event Britain, a division of VisitBritain set up to help bid for major events for the UK.
London was recently ranked the best place to do business out of 34 European cities in Cushman and Wakefield's European Cities Monitor.
