Westleigh House conferencing venues to open in August

Unique new conference and banqueting facilities at Westleigh House in Lancashire are to open on August 1st, it has been confirmed.

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has restored the building just outside the city centre in Lea, with a range of venues on offer.

Among the facilities available for use are a large conference room which can seat up to 250 people for all occasions, various smaller meeting rooms, teaching and seminar rooms and a separate dining area with lounge and bar.

State-of-the-art conferencing technology is available in all the venues and there will be full wireless internet coverage.

The 19th century mansion house was previously council-owned and used for emergency planning. It even featured a Cold War bunker.

Andy Coverdale, business services manager for facilities management at UCLan, said: "The building and grounds have been sensitively restored to create first-class facilities."

Last week, the BBC reported that plans for a £5 million project to build a new theatre and conference facilities in Hornsea had been approved.
