Will Whitehorn has been announced as a non-executive director of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC).
Mr Whitehorn, who has 25 years of experience with the development of the Virgin brand globally, noted that the Glasgow venue is facing exciting times.
"Its investment and growth plans, including the world class Scottish National Arena, have positioned it strategically to capitalise on a significant period for both Glasgow and Scotland's event market," he stated.
He said the board now has the opportunity to position the business as a world class event venue.
John Sharkey, chief executive of the SECC, added that Mr Whitehorn brings a "perfect combination" of both skills and experience to the venue.
Last month, the Scottish venue won the prestigious Event Services Grand Prix award at the UK Event Awards.
It was also crowned as the Best Large Venue, because of its capacity to successfully host events of over 1,001 delegates.
