York Marriott wins conference venue of the year

The York Marriott Hotel has been named Conference Venue of the Year 2008 at the Business Development Research Consultants awards.

It has taken the prize for the third year running, with judges saying they were impressed with its dedicated events facility and 11 meeting rooms, as well as describing it as an "excellent" venue for dinners, lunches and weddings, according to the York Press.

The award coincides with the undertaking of a £500,000 refurbishment of the reception and lobby area, a new, relocated bar with garden terrace, plus renovated restaurant.

Katharine Barenthien, general manager of the York Marriott, tells the newspaper: "This is an historic moment, winning this award in three consecutive years, and clearly shows that we are the best venue in York and Yorkshire."

She adds that the success is a "huge credit to our dedicated and passionate conference and events team".

Meanwhile, Macdonald Ansty Hall recently won an accolade for customer service at the HRS excellence awards, beating The Balmoral in Edinburgh.
