Moored in Little Venice, one of the city’s most beautiful secrets, the Electric Barge is a unique and flexible space in which to host your event. See a different side of London as we travel along both the Grand Union and Regent’s Canals from our base near Paddington Station.
Facilities
The Electric Barge is licensed to carry up to 60 people, making it perfect for parties. For business meetings we suggest that a comfortable upper limit is 20-25 people.
The boat is equipped with all the facilities you would expect to find, including an audio-visual presentation suite (laptop, 42” plasma screen, DVD player), sound system and full accessibility for people in wheelchairs.
In addition there are features specific to the boat itself that make it such an excellent place to host your event. The silent running eco-friendly electric engine means that meetings are not interrupted by engine noise and the environment is protected from diesel discharges into the water. Panoramic windows offer full 360 degree views around the boat while the two large open decks at the front and rear of the boat are each capable of accommodating 15-20 people and are ideal for enjoying the sights and tranquility of the waterways.
Routes
From our mooring at Little Venice – just 5 minutes walk from Paddington Station – we offer two routes:
West along the Grand Union Canal – enjoy the surroundings become greener and quieter as you leave London behind.
East along the Regent’s Canal – enjoy the sights as you travel from Little Venice round the edge of Regent’s Park and through London Zoo towards Camden Lock. From here we can push on towards King’s Cross, through the Islington Tunnel towards Hackney and on to Limehouse where the canal joins the Thames.
Catering
Food is a crucial ingredient in an event’s success and we offer a variety of great catering options, including sandwich lunches and fingerfood, sit-down 3 course meals and delicious spit-roast cooked barbecues. All of this can be accompanied by selections from our wine list.
Hirers are also welcome to make their own catering arrangements. Please note that alcohol brought on board is subject to a corkage charge.
About Beauchamp
The Electric Barge is operated by the charity Beauchamp Lodge Settlement (BLS). BLS has been working with children and young people since 1938.
Today, this mission is focused on our work with London schools for whom the boat functions as the Floating Classroom. We deliver a programme of imaginative, lively and hands-on science, environment and history education on board.
By hiring the boat not only will you get a great venue for your event, you will also be helping to support the work that we do with London schools and ensuring that we can continue to deliver this exciting and innovative education experience to children and young people.
