Conference centre event set to boost local economy

Liverpool will host the UK's largest property conference in November, an event expected to generate around £1.5 million.

Held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool and BT Convention Centre, an estimated 3,000 delegates are set to attend the BCSC's (formerly British Council of Shopping Centre's) annual conference, reports the Liverpool Daily Post.

It is the first time the conference has been held at the Liverpool venue, and indeed in the city of Liverpool.

Warren Bradley, Liverpool city council leader, told the Liverpool Daily Post that the conference could be one of Liverpool's largest trade events in its history.

He said it was "particularly appropriate" that the event was being held in the same year as Grosvenor's new £1 billion Liverpool One retail centre opens.

Mr Bradley went on to say: "We look forward to welcoming them to the city and showing them what we have to offer during such an exciting year."

Already since its opening, large retail names such as WH Smith Zara and John Lewis have left the traditional shopping area of Church Street to head to Liverpool One, according to the Liverpool Echo.

BCSC represents delegates such as retailers, agents, architects, developers and the conference is now in its 25th year.
