Eventia Launches Major Industry Research Programmes

Leading UK trade body Eventia today launches the 2012 ‘UK Events Market Trends Survey’ (UKEMTS) research.

This major research project, undertaken annually since 1993, provides volume, value and key trends data for the UK conference and business events market from a supply-side or venue perspective.

UKEMTS is being sponsored by drpgroup, Accor Hotels, Conference Centres of Excellence, Event Assured, and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.

UKEMTS forms the first part of a huge investment in research in 2012 by the business events sector in the UK.

Part two, to commence later in 2012, will comprise the first-ever ‘UK Economic Impact Survey’ (UKEIS), a substantial UK meetings industry collaboration powered by the MPI Foundation and using the United Nations standard methodology for measuring the economic significance and characteristics of the meetings and business events sector.

UKEIS is being sponsored by many of the leading players in the sector, including Intercontinental Hotels Group, CAT Publications, International Confex, IMEX, Reed Exhibitions, ICCA, HBAA,SITE, and key destinations and venues.

Eventia will act as a data partner to UKEIS.

There has already been close collaboration between both research projects to exploit the synergies and maximise their complementarity. It is anticipated that UKEMTS 2012 will report in Summer 2012, with UKEIS being published in late 2012 or early 2013.

The results of the two studies will provide the most robust assessment ever of the UK’s meetings and business events sector and will be widely used to inform investment, advocacy and marketing activities.

UKEMTS asks venues to provide data on their conference and events business during the calendar year 2011, and includes questions on the number of events held, rates achieved, event duration and size, client type, lead times, investment plans, together with projections for business in 2012.

The survey questionnaire is available online and as a ‘Word’ document and will remain open until 30 March.

Dale Parmenter, managing director, drpgroup, says: “In a dynamic industry like events, the need for, and importance of, quality research cannot be overemphasised. It is vital that businesses keep abreast of new developments, issues and opportunities, and feedback from event venues is an integral part of such market monitoring. We are pleased to be a Principal Sponsor for this year’s ‘UK Events Market Trends Survey’ research.”

Rob Allen, Eventia Chairman, stresses Eventia’s commitment to supporting quality industry research. He says: “We are developing a portfolio of research programmes to complement our series of White Papers and our focused contributions to events sector professionalisation in areas such as corporate responsibility, sustainability, legislation and lobbying, and education.”
