Long-term deal for Telford

One of the Midlands’ largest event centres is celebrating after signing a long-term deal with a high profile leisure industry event.

The International Centre, Telford, is set to host the Summer Outdoor Living Exhibition (Solex) through to 2012 – which means it will have welcomed the exhibition for five years in a row.

Tom Gray, Chief Executive of the Southwater Event Group (which owns the International Centre), said: “This is fantastic news for Telford and just shows the confidence the event organisers have in our team.

“We have hosted the Solex event ever since it was launched in 2008, and we’re delighted to be looking forward to a long-term partnership.”

Tom said the three-day exhibition was a major event in the venue’s calendar, as it utilised every element of the Southwater Event Group’s services.

“They literally use every inch of space in our exhibition halls, with support from our in-house production team, Stagecraft, and exhibitors and visitors use our hotel facilities.

“To have it confirmed that the exhibition will be returning to us every July for the next three years is a great boost not only for the Southwater Event Group, but for Telford’s economy as a whole.”

Solex is the annual industry event for the Leisure and Outdoor Furniture Association (LOFA), an organisation which was launched over 40 years ago.

Its members are made up of companies who manufacture and distribute garden furniture, barbecues, parasols and soft furnishings.

The International Centre has over 11,000sq m of flexible event space and the Southwater Event Group has a combined total of 341 hotel bedrooms.

It also offers a dedicated check-in area and branded carriages on the Wrexham and Shropshire Railway for delegates travelling from Marylebone Station on the direct line to Telford.
