Ricoh Arena up for Venue of the Year award

Ricoh Arena has been short-listed for three prizes at the inaugural international Stadium Business Awards.

The stadium is one of five venues competing in the Creativity category, with Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and Sunderland's Stadium of Light among the contenders.

Ricoh's marketing director Liz Cooper has been nominated for Team Player of the Year and the arena is also up for the much-coveted title of Venue of the Year.

In this latter category it will be competing against the new Espanyol Stadium in Barcelona, the O2 in London, Twickenham, the Cowboys Stadium in the US and Ukraine's Donbass Arena.

"We are proud to have been short-listed in three categories in these awards which are designed to showcase the international expertise of stadiums, arenas and major sports venues across the world," said Daniel Gidney, chief executive of the Ricoh Arena.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday (April 21st).

Ricoh's three nominations add to a nod it has gained for a Contactless Intelligence Monkey Award. The arena is short-listed for the success of its cashless payment system used at Coventry City matches.
