£1m of funding goes on offer to Blackpool events

Events organisers in Blackpool could be able to get their hands on £1 million of funding after the council decided to remove the money from the Winter Gardens conference facility.

The local authority had been paying the annual subsidy to Leisure Parcs, Winter Gardens owners, but when the agreement comes to an end in October, it will redistribute the grant.

Events will be subsidised on an individual basis and organisations will be able to choose the venues they feel are most suitable for holding their conference, exhibition or meeting.

"We are now in the process of reviewing all the events at the Winter Gardens with the team from Visit Blackpool, to determine which events will be supported," said a spokesperson for the council.

In related news, building work began on a new multi-million pound conference centre at Lancashire County Cricket Club's Old Trafford Ground at the beginning of May, using funding from Natwest, the Press Association reported.
