AEG Europe submits application for new London venues

AEG Europe has applied for detailed planning consent to build a 3,000-capacity event space and 450-bedroom hotel next to the O2 arena.

The project will see the major events business add more London venues to its portfolio as well as further the regeneration of the Greenwich Peninsula.

AEG Europe already has outline planning consent from the London Borough of Greenwhich and is now applying for full approval from the local council.

The plans include state-of-the-art conferencing facilities and the events company said that it is already working with a shortlist of potential operators for the hotel.

David Campbell, chief executive of AEG Europe, said: "The O2 has already created more than 2,500 direct jobs in Greenwich. However, the real economic prize for Greenwich and east London is adding overnight visitors."

In related news, a new conference facility, including a 90-seat lecture theatre, is set to be built at the FA's National Football Centre in Burton-upon-Trent.
