All Change for Rydges Kensington London

Rydges Hotels & Resorts are proud to announce that the property previously named Rydges Kensington Plaza has been renamed Rydges Kensington London.

This small, but significant name change coincides with the extensive refurbishment and subsequent repositioning of the property as a market leading boutique four star deluxe hotel in the prestigious location of Kensington, London.

Joanna Carruthers, General Manager of Rydges Kensington London, explained that the change from Rydges Kensington Plaza to Rydges Kensington London is a gentle evolution rolled out in conjunction with the refurbishment.

The hotel has a history that stretches back to 1789 when Edward Lee of Brompton purchased the tenancy of a small copy hold estate of the manor. He owned 6 acres of land from the east corner of Gloucester Road to Old Brompton Road. Houses were built in the 1820’s by William Blake who was a brick layer; it was he who built the house which is now Rydges Kensington London. The main rooms for the families were located on the 1st floor where they had afternoon tea in the high ceiling rooms with large windows. The stair cases were invariably of stone decorated with iron balusters. Service rooms were confined to the basement, accessed from the street by stone steps for housekeepers and butlers.

Now, after embarking on the multi-million pound project, the Rydges Kensington London is fully refurbished, with 81 luxuriously decorated bedrooms including the new Rydges Dream Beds, wired and WiFi internet connections in each room and public areas of the hotel, 6 state-of-the-art modern conference rooms seating up to 120, a brand new modern gymnasium, as well as The Jam Cupboard restaurant and Polo bar.

At the end of the refurbishment, it is evident that everything, including the name has changed at the new Rydges Kensington London property.
