BAM Construction chosen as preferred contractor for Leeds venue

BAM Construction has been chosen by councillors as the preferred contractor to build the Leeds Arena.

The company has worked on other Leeds venues and stadia around the world, including the new dual-use pavilion for Yorkshire Cricket Ground at Headingley Stadium and the Berlin O2 Arena.

It is currently working on a £9.2 million refurbishment of the Leeds City Varieties theatre and previously built the award-winning Leeds Metropolitan University building, the Rose Bowl.

BAM will now undertake the £55 million project to build the arena on Clay Pit Lane, which is expected to add around £25.5 million per year to the city's economy.

Councillor Andrew Carter, leader of Leeds City Council, said that there was huge interest from companies looking to work on the arena.

"This shows the prestigious nature of this development and it is fantastic that we now have one of the very best contractors working on it," he added.

Outline planning permission for the arena was granted by the council last month.
