Glasgow's SECC to stage Mobo awards

The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) will host this year's Music of Black Origin (Mobo) awards, in an unprecedented move to take the ceremony out of London.

Reality TV popstars Lemar and JLS will present the show, which will take place outside of the capital for the first time in its 14-year history.

Lemar, who entered the charts following a third-place finish on BBC One's Fame Academy, promised that the ceremony in September would be an "outstanding event", adding that Scotland is a perfect destination for the event.

"Bringing the Mobo awards here to Glasgow, a city with such a strong and vibrant music scene, is the perfect fit," he explained

Lemar added that he has previously received an "incredible" welcome when performing in Scotland during his UK tours.

Recently, the SECC won best conference centre at the events industry's leading awards ceremony, beating ACC Liverpool and One Great George Street to take the accolade for the second year running.
