Leeds venues to be increased after permission granted

A new £80 million conference and live music stadium which will add to Leeds venues has been give outline planning approval.

The city's council has given the initial green light for the Leeds Arena project, which would have a capacity of 13,500 people.

If the plans for the new addition to Leeds venues go ahead it is expected that the music and conference venue will be completed in 2012.

The location of Claypitt Lane, on the northern edge of the city centre, was decided on a few years ago, with the five-acre site being identified as the ideal candidate for regeneration.

Speaking after the outline planning permission was granted, Leeds City Council leader Andrew Carter said: "This is another very positive step forward in delivering the region's ambition for an arena in Leeds."

He added that the next goal for the latest addition to Leeds venues is to select a preferred contractor and begin construction by the end of 2010.

The 'super theatre' promises good views from every seat in the house, while also boasting a close proximity to the stage.ADNFCR-1752-ID-19684529-ADNFCR
