London Eye celebrates as venue turns 10

The London Eye will celebrate its tenth birthday tonight (March 9th) with a spectacular light show and champagne reception.

Run by Merlin Entertainments, the London Eye is one of the capital's most iconic venues and since it opened in 2000 has welcomed over 36 million visitors.

As well as giving millions of people a unique view of the London skyline over the last decade, it has also acted as a wedding venue and even had a starring role in Australian soap neighbours.

Tonight, from 19:00 GMT all visitors will witness an impressive light show and anyone who books a flight at that time will also receive a free glass of Pommery Champagne to enjoy on the ride.

"Everyone at the London Eye is thrilled to be celebrating this important landmark with our visitors, who've been so important along the way, and we can't wait to see it all come to life," said David Sharpe, divisional director of London Midway attractions, Merlin Entertainments.
