Manchester is 'value-for-money conference destination'

Manchester has been found to be the cheapest destination for holding conferences and events compared to three international cities, according to new research.

Event organisers Oxford International compared the Lancashire city with London, Monte Carlo and Lisbon based on 50 delegates from the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands spending two nights in a four-star hotel in March with a welcome buffet and offsite dinner.

It found that Manchester offered the best value per attendee at £972.01, with Lisbon coming in second at just over £1,000 per head, Monte Carlo added an extra £139.50 to this figure and London was the most expensive at £1146.99.

The results show businesses will not upset their accounts if they choose to hold an event in Europe, Oxford International said.

"If however, budgets are an issue and your delegates are largely UK based, then there’s certainly an argument for staying at home and checking out some of the incredible venues in cities across the country," the company added.

Last month, London was found to be cheaper than New York for staging international events for the first time since 2002.
