New conference venue planned for Portsmouth

A new conference centre is set to be built as part of plans to develop a new business centre in Portsmouth's Lakeside North Harbour, reports propertyweek.com.

Highcross, the project's property fund manager, is looking to create 750,000 square feet of new office space in addition to a 70,000 square foot hotel on the 100-acre site. The conference facilities will be built for the use of local businesses, while a medical centre and a retail area comprising a series of shops will also be constructed.

Keith Woods, technical director of Highcross, told the website: "We are proposing the highest standards of architectural and landscape design for this important location at the gateway to Portsmouth."

The land has been under Highcross' ownership for three years and now the company is seeking to create a new business hub for Portsmouth which will be partly powered by two wind turbines.

The News at Portsmouth.co.uk reports that the city's Guildhall may remain under the existing management team, despite plans being considered to return the event venue to the council in an attempt to secure higher-profile acts.
