Prestige Scotland praised for catering at award-winning Walker Cup tournament

Prestige Scotland has been praised for the quality of catering and service it provided at this year’s Walker Cup golf tournament, which was named the Event of the Year at the 2011 Sunday Mail and sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards.

At the match at the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in September when Great Britain and Ireland took on the United States of America, Prestige Scotland catered for the welcome dinner for 450 people. Guests attending the dinner included both teams, guests of The R&A, the United States Golf Association and Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, which organised the tournament.

At the flag raising ceremony for 800, Prestige Scotland served 4800 canapés and catered for 800 R&A members, guests and club members and officials on each championship day.

Guests were treated to the best local seasonal produce and Scottish reared beef and Prestige Scotland managed to recruit 80% of staff for the match from the Aberdeen area through its existing events base at Aberdeen Football Club.

Jim Christie, vice-chairman of The Walker Cup Committee at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, said: “I wish to congratulate Prestige Scotland for playing a huge part in the success of The Walker Cup match played at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club. Their professionalism and efficiency in catering and service to visitors, members and guests throughout the event were of the highest quality.”

Michael Wells, assistant director of Championships at The R&A, said: “Prestige Scotland played no small part in helping to make the event a success and provided invaluable support and expertise in the planning stages and during the three day event.”

Sandy Robson, operations manager for Heritage Venues and Events at Prestige Scotland, said the company continued to have a strong relationship with The R&A after catering at The Open Championship at St Andrews in 2010.

"We worked with the host golf club and organising committee to devise menus that would appeal to both local and international tastes as players and officials arrived from across the UK, Ireland and USA," said Robson.

“Our existing events base in Aberdeen through Aberdeen Football Club allowed us to recruit locally and work with local equipment, food and beverage suppliers. Both on and off the course, the event was a great success and we are proud to have been a part of it."

Prestige Scotland caters to a range of leading venues, including the National Stadium, Hampden Park, National Museums of Scotland, the National Galleries of Scotland, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Perth and Hamilton Park racecourses, and Blair, Dundas, and Glamis castles.
