Principal Hayley unveils £7m refurb to famous London venue

Principal Hayley Hotels and Conference Venues has completed a £7 million refurbishment of the historic New Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden.

The hotel chain acquired the facility in June this year and started revamp work in August.

This evening it will hold a launch of the renamed Grand Connaught Rooms for some of London's key conference and event organisers.

Interior designer Charles Leon came up with the plans for the refurbishment, which included restoration of the Grand Hall, which can seat over 800 delegates in a theatre-style layout and 700 for dinner when combined with the Balmoral suite.

"The Grand Connaught Rooms has long been one of London's most prestigious meeting places and we are delighted to have been able to re-launch it as one of central London's largest, stylish, high-tech conferencing and banqueting venues," said Roger Devlin, chairman of Principal Hayley.

In related news, the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre recently put forward plans to become London's main international convention venue.
