The Sage Gateshead wins award for disabled services

The Sage Gateshead has won the Meetings and Incentive Travel magazine award for Best Disabled Services. The venue received the gong at a ceremony in London during February. The award was judged by a panel of experts and the shortlisting process included a site visit and thorough assessment of facilities. It aims to raise industry awareness of new disability regulations and rewards excellence of service for organisations that are making a big difference.

Key features and services at The Sage, include:

* Flat access to all areas including backstage, stage and staff areas

* Hearing loop and Sennheiser systems for information and performances

* Raised bumps on stair rails and Braille on lift buttons

* A total of 35 accessible toilet facilities and 13 adult changing/showering areas

* DDA and RNIB-compliant printed materials, with large print copies available

* Wheelchairs, walkers and accessibility scooters available to visitors

* Monitored light levels in all areas to assist those with visual impairments

* All door handles, locks, plugs and lift buttons at wheelchair level

* Ticket office, cloakroom and foyer bars at wheelchair level
