University of Derby Buxton wins training award

Events Management experts at the University of Derby Buxton have won a

prestigious national award – for the second year in a row.

Triumphing in the Excellence In Training category of the 2008 National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) Awards recognises new University projects, such as the development – in partnership with the Leisure & Event Safety unit of building, engineering and environmental consultancy Capita Symonds – of a Diploma in Events Safety Management.

Available from September 2008, this short course will give industry professionals a safety training qualification equivalent to a second year undergraduate degree course semester. Strong interest has already been shown in it by the industry.

Franc Avila, programme leader for the University’s BA (Hons) Events Management Course, said: “It’s a humbling experience to be recognised by the industry in this way. We feel the new diploma we will be offering is something that the industry has been waiting for. We’re very excited about working with Capita Symonds on it.”
