Wyndham Grand 'to create new conference and event space'

A West London hotel is to undergo a £25 million refurbishment complete with new event space, according to a source.

The Wyndham Grand in Chelsea Harbour is to create lavish new conference and banqueting facilities which are expected to hold 600 people for dining and 800 people in a theatre style layout, Event Magazine reports.

It is planned that the new development will overlook the marina, with a balcony for smokers.

"We already have bookings for the space including weddings [and] corporate functions. It is in an area of London that does not have anything of this kind," Andre Van Der Biji, sales manager at Wyndham Grand, told the news provider.

The event space is expected to open in January 2010.

Meanwhile, Scotland's Central hotel in Glasgow is to undergo a £20 million investment to restore it to its former glory, after it was closed in February when owner the Real Hotel Company went into administration.
