Yorkshire venue announces new director

The Harrogate International Centre (HIC) has announced that Angus Houston has been appointed to the role of director.

Mr Houston, who will take up the position at the Yorkshire venue in the new year, has previously worked for Sydmar Ltd in Gibraltar, Lumley Castle Hotel in County Durham and Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Houston said major cities are now recognising the role event venues play as drivers of business tourism.

"Harrogate had foresight in the past to develop such facilities and I am determined to ensure HIC as a venue and Harrogate as a destination remains a primary choice for large conferences, events and exhibitions," he added.

Leader of Harrogate Borough Council Mike Gardner stated that Mr Houston was an impressive business head.

Last month, the conference centre said it was working to cross promote the Joules Big Sale, Simply Christmas and Love Cooking events, which all took place in early December.
