Yorkshire venues attracting conferences

The number of business conferences which are opting to hold an event in Yorkshire is on the rise, it has been reported.

Earlier this year, Welcome to Yorkshire's Business Tourism Strategy was launched to increase the number of conferences and meetings held in York, Sheffield, Hull and Leeds venues.

The strategy, which included marketing and public relations (PR), was employed by Conference Leeds, York & Scarborough Conferences, Hull and East Yorkshire Conferences and Yorkshire South Tourism.

Venues across the region have now attracted £1.8 million of corporate business six months ahead of schedule, new figures show.

Chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire Gary Verity said the figures highlight how important the organisation's investment in business tourism is.

"The four Yorkshire conference bureaux have worked hard to secure this business for the county and the supporting marketing and PR activity has enhanced Yorkshire's profile as a leading destination for conferences and events."

Earlier this month, Leeds' 02 Academy celebrated its 2nd birthday.
