Conference venues join forces to promote sustainability

Three conference centres have joined forces to create a Global Green Alliance, which will see them promote sustainable events.

The venues, which include the Arena and Convention Centre (ACC) Liverpool, Cape Town International Convention Centre and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre will advocate industry best-practice for hosting eco-friendly conventions as part of the collaboration.

Kerrin MacPhie, head of sales at the BT Convention Centre, which is part of Liverpool's ACC, said: "Event organisers have been under increasing pressure for some time now to meet corporate social responsibility and sustainability targets."

"The launch of this new alliance marks an exciting new era for the meetings and events sector," added Anne Jamieson, director of sales at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Initially, the venues will develop a joint international marketing strategy and will then move on to introducing a range of sustainable service offerings.

The BT Convention Centre recently joined the Hotel Booking Agents Association, as part of efforts to promote the venue to delegates.
