*Expotel achieves 29 per cent CO2 reduction in two years*
Expotel, the UK’s leading independent hotel reservations, business travel and conference and event management agency, today announced that it has been awarded CarbonNeutral® company status for the third year, and has also reduced its original carbon footprint by 29 per cent since its 2007 audit.
The CarbonNeutral Company has been working with Expotel to measure the carbon emissions generated by its waste, consumption of energy and business travel, and reductions of these emissions to net zero through a programme implemented in accordance with the CarbonNeutral Protocol.
Throughout the programme Expotel has put in place procedures to reduce the amount of waste it produces through initiatives such as diverting as much waste as possible away from landfill for reuse and recycling where it can’t be eliminated; reducing the energy Expotel used and, avoiding unnecessary travel or choosing the most environmentally friendly mode of transport.
Expotel has also initiated travel plans which include the introduction of discounted travel tickets for staff commuting to work, car sharing schemes and a change in company cars from petrol to diesel. There is also waste segregation at each office with onsite recycling facilities. Suppliers of office equipment are requested to return old items and dispose/recycle where possible. Expotel has also implemented a policy of purchasing recycled paper and monitoring other recycled materials for consideration for purchase when they become available.
