Ice rink organisers find new York venue

Event organisers of York's outdoor ice rink have opted for a different venue this year, following complaints of noise in 2009.

The Ice Factor struggled to find a suitable York venue in the city centre and now hope to locate the winter attraction to York Designer Outlet three miles (5km) away.

Producer James Cundall told the BBC that the new Yorkshire venue would enable the Ice Factor to have a larger ice rink, bar and cafe.

Last year's Christmas rink was the subject of complaints from the crown court, which said the attraction's loud music was disturbing trials in the legal building.

The Ice Factor has now applied for planning and licensing permission to the city council.

Speaking to the news provider, councillor Andrew Waller, leader of the city council, said: "This is great news for the city.

"Whilst applications are still being reviewed, we are positive that everyone will want to see this special Christmas attraction return."

The rink is due to open on November 20th.
