After five years' worth of planning, a major global conference is set to take place in the Wirral next month, it has been announced.
The European Cemeteries Conference will take place on September, with guests set to flock to the north-west England from across the globe.
Delegates are expected to attend from as far a field as Estonia, Sweden, Croatia and Australia and discuss pressing issues such as restoration, volunteering and vandalism.
Conference organiser John Moffat told Birkenhead News: "We have put together a conference that will - for the first time - bring together the volunteers, councils, English Heritage and the Institute of Cemetery and Crematoria Managers.
"My hope is that the conference will bring lasting benefit to the UK cemetery voluntary sector."
In addition to talks by guest speakers - including the heads of the historic Pere Lachaise and Highgate cemeteries delegates will also be taken to Birkenhead Priory, the Anglican Cathedral and Birkenhead Park.
