Rhyl fire station offers conference facilities to community

The newly refurbished Rhyl Community Fire Station, opened by the Welsh first minister, will offer conference facilities in its new building.

Whilst operating as a fully-functional fire station, the building will also provide a meeting place and conference facilities for local businesses. The refurbishment was conducted using £400,000 granted from the Welsh Assembly, and the money has been used to renovate extra space in the existing building to accommodate charity groups and other members of the local community.

Rhodri Morgan, the first minister, said: "Rhyl Community Fire Station is the first of its kind in north Wales, combining a high quality working fire station with excellent facilities for the community, local organisations and businesses."

Several local organisations have already begun to use the fire station's facilities on a regular basis, including the Dyn Project which works with male victims of domestic abuse, and Canllaw, which offers youth services.

The town may not set out to compete with Birmingham venues or Bolton venues, but it will offer a valuable service to the local community.
