Crowne Plaza Newcastle – Stephenson Quarter has reported a 36.1% increase in new event enquiries over the past year, alongside a 10.6% rise in confirmed business and a 9.1% increase in its total sales pipeline, as Newcastle attracts growing interest from corporate event organisers.
The figures come as the city's profile as an events destination continues to rise. Newcastle and Gateshead welcomed 17.5 million visitors in 2025, a 2.8% increase on the previous year, with conferences and events playing a significant role in that growth. The city is preparing to host five UEFA EURO 2028 matches and will welcome the return of the Mercury Prize in October 2026, following its debut last year as the first host city outside London. The MOBO Awards also came to Newcastle for the first time last year, with Crowne Plaza serving as an event hub during the accompanying MOBO Fringe Festival.
At a regional level, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness has committed £7 million to Experience North East England, a regional visitor economy initiative, and has expanded the remit of NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau to attract more conferences and meetings to the area.
Luke Balcombe, Director of Commercial at Crowne Plaza Newcastle, said: "We're seeing growing interest from organisers who may not previously have considered Newcastle for meetings and conferences. Major events help raise awareness, but they also encourage people to take a fresh look at what the city can offer."
