Second prestigious award selection in two short weeks for One Great George Street

The annual Cateys 2011 awards ceremony took place at a glittering event in The Great Room of the JW Marriott, Grosvenor House hotel on London’s prestigious Park Lane on the 5th July. The venue was represented by Wendy Greenhalgh, Director of Sales and Marketing and two non-executive board members for One Great George Street, Doreen Boulding and Nick Moorhouse.

One Great George Street provides an excellent range of services for those with accessible requirements, including: a lift entrance at the front of the building for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, a bell at the bottom of the stairs to connect with the reception desk, who immediately activate the lift and assist visitors. All corridors in the venue are suitable for wheelchair access and there are two passenger lifts large enough to accommodate a standard wheelchair (width 0.8m). Induction Loops are permanently fitted in both the Telford and Godfrey Mitchell Theatres and at reception. Two portable hearing loops are also available for use in our other rooms at no charge.

In addition, strobe fire alarms for the hearing impaired are installed throughout the venue and service dogs are welcome. Lifts have floor voice announcements and control buttons within the lift cars are at an accessible height.

“The above facilities highlight the venues main aim, which is to create an environment that enables anyone to participate fully in events hosted at One Great George Street. Our accessibility facilities are award-winning and this has been recognised by the 2011 Cateys expert panel of judges. One Great George Street has also previously been recognised by Meetings and Incentive Travel magazine for ‘Best Accessible Facilities’ and was shortlisted in the ‘Best Conference Venue in London’ category for the Conference Awards 2011 ” enthused Gary Payne, Director of One Great George Street and Director of Policy and Services for the Meetings Industry Association.

In August 2010 Visit London announced that One Great George Street was the successful candidate and won the title of the London Media Centre for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This accolade combined with the unrivalled location and services, has seen interest in One Great George Street grow to an all-time high.
