The Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) has won a prestigious industry award at a ceremony at the Glasgow Hilton, reports traveldailynews.com.
The conference venue was awarded The Glasgow: Scotland with style Award for Best Business Tourism Company, at the 19th Annual Scottish Council for Development & Industry (SCDI) Awards for Exports & Enterprise, before an audience of 700 delegates. The event venue was recognised for making a major contribution to the local economy by bringing nearly £350 million of revenue into the city each year.
Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, told the website: "The SECC is the national conference and exhibition centre for Scotland. Its contribution to the Scottish economy has outweighed every venue in Scotland."
The conference venue increased its revenue by four per cent to £16 million last year and hosted nearly 50 different conferences.
According to timesonline.co.uk, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, due to be held in Glasgow, are likely to cost nearly £290 million.
