Academy Music Group has announced that it is to open a new O2 Academy at the University of Leicester campus.
Adding to the 11 other Academy venues across the UK in locations like Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol and Birmingham, the new club will open in September.
It will have a 1,450 capacity and will be housed in the Percy Gee building, at the heart of the University of Leicester's Students' Union, which is currently undergoing a £15 million development.
There will also be two additional production-complete venues on site, the 500-capacity O2 Academy2 Leicester and the O2 Academy3 Leicester, which will be able to hold 250 people.
Each club will operate independently, as well as simultaneously when required.
"O2 Academy Leicester will put the city back on the touring circuit as a primary destination, with all live gigs open to the general public as well as students," said Academy Music Group chief executive John Northcote.
Meanwhile, plans for a new arena in Leeds continue to move forward, with the city council recently choosing BAM as the preferred contractor for the building of the venue.
