Newbury Racecourse has announced plans to launch itself for the first time as a standalone concert venue - Newbury LIVE. Grammy™ Award winning Newbury racegoer Rod Stewart is set to take to the stage as the very first act on Sunday 29 May 2011.
This is the first time that Newbury Racecourse has staged a concert not connected to its horseracing fixtures, and will enjoy a fully seated capacity of over 20,000. Rod Stewart will kick start a series of sensational standalone music set to run from the 29 May 2011.
The racecourse has become well known for its season of Party in the Paddock events, which brings together live music and racing and demonstrates the growing potential Newbury has as a high profile concert venue.
Stephen Higgins, Joint Managing Director, Newbury Racecourse said, “The racecourse has the potential to seat over 20,000 visitors and will be transformed into an intimate, sit-down only event for the Rod Stewart gig. For future events, we will be hosting up to 60,000 in seats and standing combined. Newbury LIVE is an excellent example of how we are expanding the racecourse as a host venue and because it’s only 40 minutes from London, it’s perfectly placed to become of the UK’s most promising and diverse entertainment venues.”
Newbury LIVE is only one of five concerts that the ‘Wild Horse’ and ‘Maggie May’ hitmaker, who once famously claimed to have bought his children horses and encourage an equestrian lifestyle to avoid the pitfalls of partying, will be playing at in the UK in 2011.
Rod Stewart adds: “Penny and I have been racing at Newbury before and had a great time so I’m delighted to be the first person performing at Newbury LIVE and can’t wait to see everyone there. It will be a fantastic night.”
Newbury Racecourse boasts over 1,000 square metres of conference and entertainment space suitable for weddings, filming, outdoor events and international summits. There are also 40 private boxes suitable for small conferences or launches, with overall capacity for up to 1,000 delegates onsite.
