Work begins on new Scunthorpe conference venue

Work has started to build a new multi-purpose entertainment and conference centre in Scunthorpe.

Baths Hall, which will add to the venues offering in Lincolnshire, will be capable of hosting live performances and events for up to 2,000 people.

It will include a multi-use area with a capacity of 1,200 seated and 2,000 standing, plus conference facilities, a cafe and a bar.

The work is being undertaken by Scunthorpe-based Clugston Construction, which has started site preparations and expects to begin building the venue at the end of May.

Councillor Mark Kirk, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: "The new venue will do wonders for the regeneration of Scunthorpe. It will bring more visitors to the town and give the local economy a real boost."

Last week, BAM Construction was chosen by Leeds councillors as preferred contractor for the £55 million project to build the city's new arena on Clay Pit Lane.
